When people think about the giant leap of the Apollo moon missions that forever changed human history few would imagine a growing space industry based on a small island as capable of replicating such an achievement. However this is the position that the Isle of Man, a British Crown Protectorate in the Irish Sea, is in since it was recognized as one of the space superpowers that could return humans to the moon.

At the forefront of this effort is Excalibur Almaz (EA), an Isle of Man (IOM) company founded in 2005 that has been working to leverage the island's pro-space government and professional infrastructure to become the world's leading commercial provider of private space transportation services.

One of the Island's leading lights in the commercial space race has received a prestigious award. Art Dula, founder and
chief executive of Isle of Man space tourism firm Excalibur Almaz Limited, has been awarded the Pioneer of NewSpace
prize by the Space Frontier Foundation (SFF).

The award is given to early leaders in the commercial space industry who have left a lasting legacy through personal investment
or the creation of a NewSpace enterprise. Judges chose Mr Dula in recognition of his 'long-standing work in the industry'. He was presented with the prize at a gala dinner during the foundation's annual conference in Silicon Valley, California. 

SFF founder Bob Werb said: 'Art Dula has been doing NewSpace since before anyone knew what it was.
